From the East to Your Home — Hughes Rugs Goes Live

Fashions in furnishings come and go, but oriental and tribal rugs have a timeless appeal. Generations of homeowners have discovered how these rugs add colour, depth, warmth and texture to our homes.

Hughes Rugs is a Marlborough-based company that imports premier quality rugs and carpets from the traditional carpet-producing countries, including Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan and India. Headed by husband-and-wife team Stephen and Marie Hughes, this traditional family business draws on decades of experience in the rug and carpet trade. All their products are ethically sourced, largely from skilled weavers living in nomadic, tribal or village communities.

Customers of Hughes Rugs often benefit from massive savings over high street prices. In addition, the company’s home selection service means that it’s possible to view the products in situ, taking all the guesswork out of matching to the colour scheme and decor.

Sanders Web Works was happy to offer Hughes Rugs a redesign of their existing website. This was in need of updating, additional content, optimisation for SEO and general improvements to design.

We redesigned the website with a straightforward structure and, for ease of navigation, menus were kept as simple as possible. Appropriate images of the product range were uploaded, including some of the rugs in customer homes. The latter really give a feel for the beauty of the rugs. We also wrote original content summarising each of the major categories. This is handy for customers looking for some background on the rugs’ provenance and history, but also improves how the site is ranked by search engines. Visually, the use of subtly patterned backgrounds allows the design to identify strongly with the product, without being busy or obtrusive. You can see further details of the build in our portfolio entry and please do take a look at the completed website.

It’s always good to work with a locally-based business — especially one that’s as longstanding as Hughes Rugs — and we wish them continued success.
