The Town Crier is a free monthly magazine distributed in North Wiltshire. There are two editions, one geared towards Calne and Chippenham area, the other covering Royal Wootton Bassett and Malmesbury. Apart from advertising local services, these content-rich magazines feature recipes, puzzles, articles, book reviews, events and other items of local interest. An estimated 24,000 magazines are distributed monthly.
Sanders Web Works have been working with The Town Crier since 2013, and we were delighted when we were commissioned to redesign their website. The website both promotes and complements the highly successful print magazine. For example, the website links to digital versions of current and previous print editions.
We began by redesigning the site’s structure to accommodate a number of new features. These included:
- town guides, with links to useful external sites
- a what’s on section for each area
- a revamp of the news and blog sections
- enhanced capabilities for online advertising
- a mobile-friendly version of the site
Copy was written, photographs added and our technical elves designed a nifty feature that assigns any new content to the appropriate town guide. We also refreshed and updated how the site looks:
Sanders Web Works are enthusiastic advocates for local businesses, with many of our longstanding clients located within a few miles of our office. It’s therefore particularly gratifying to continue our working relationship with The Town Crier. With an estimated readership that’s close to 50,000, the magazine helps local businesses reach a very substantial number of potential customers. That’s a real boost to the local economy and we’re proud to have played our part in it.
